Representing buildings and urban features in hydrodynamic flood models

چکیده

Abstract Flood risk in cities and built‐up areas is a major threat which likely to grow due increased urbanisation climate change. It priority for urban planning, civil defence insurance accurately represent buildings features hydrodynamic models assess flood people, properties, assets infrastructure an uncertain future. The correct representation of currently blocked by the lack detailed accurate techniques has become improvement modelling now that better data computational resources are available. This study reviewed available approaches implemented widely used ‘ stubby building ’ approximation as well more realistic innovative hole approach using model CityCAT. city centre Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, was case study, allowing independent validation methods direct, systematic comparison performance. Shortcomings approximate method described, guidance given on limits its reliable application scope improvement.

Flood hazard mapping in an urban area using combined hydrologic-hydraulic models and geospatial technologies

Flooding is one of the most occurring natural hazards every year risking the lives and properties of the affected communities, especially in Philippine context. To visualize the extent and mitigate the impacts of flood hazard in Malingon River in Valencia City, Bukidnon, this paper presents the combination of Geographic Information System, high-resolution Digital Elevation Model, land cover, so...

True Realistic 3d Models of Buildings in Urban Areas

Developing realistic 3D models of cities provides designers, planners, the public, and the others with imagery closely coupled with the human expertise. This paper continues on the results of an earlier innovation in the field of texture creation for the construction of Virtually Realistic Model (VRM) of buildings in urban areas. Using a CCD camera mounted on a theodolite the system takes the i...

Energy Efficiency of Buildings: A New Challenge for Urban Models

Despite some recent conceptual studies and a modicum of empirical evidence, urban models do not currently take into account the energy efficiency of buildings. This paper presents a framework for incorporating energy efficiency and energy use of buildings into urban models based on microeconomic theory and pricing mechanisms in real estate markets. Using the example of the IRPUD urban land use,...

Representing Hydrodynamic Dispersion in Saltwater Intrusion Models That Differ in Temporal Resolution

Variable-density groundwater flow models are often used to understand the complex nature of coastal groundwater systems. Hydrodynamic dispersion is a difficult process to represent with a model because of spatially varying hydraulic conductivity and temporally varying hydrologic boundary conditions. Temporal variations in water levels, for example, that occur in the field are often averaged int...
